Commissioned Scripts

Sorting through the thousands of available church drama scripts can be an overwhelming and daunting task. It’s virtually impossible to find a script that you can tie directly into your sermon or message. Most times, you’re forced to take a skit that is only tangentially related to your theme and provide a lengthy explanation as to how it illustrates your point or your lesson.

With an original script, your Sunday morning drama will be specifically written to fit your service and sermon needs, tying into your unique themes and lessons. An original informational sketch can be crafted to let your congregation know about upcoming events and programs. Full-length plays can be written for outreach events or as a part of community life.

Every time you commission a new script from JoshHornbeck.com, you receive a number of planning sessions to make certain the piece will suit your needs. A story treatment will be provided to give an initial impression of how the play will function. The script will be rewritten as many times as necessary to give you a finely polished playscript that will meet all of your church or organization’s needs. And finally, you will also receive non-exclusive, perpetual performance rights – you can perform the play as many times as you would like without paying any additional royalties or fees.

Short Play
5-15 minutes

Short plays are ideal for use as Sunday morning dramas, sermon illustrations, informational sketches, children’s ministry aids, attention-grabbers, youth ministry aids, fundraising illustrations, and any number of other purposes.

Three planning sessions are included with the commission of a short play, either by phone or in person. Travel expenses will be charged for planning sessions that take place in person. There will be additional fees for any planning session beyond the initial three sessions. Payment will be due upon the delivery of a working draft of the script.

One Act Play
20-45 minutes

One act plays are ideal for use as a replacement for a Sunday morning sermon, children’s ministry aids, youth ministry aids, a children’s or youth production, touring productions, missions work, social issue plays for schools, and any number of other purposes.

Five planning sessions are included with the commission of a one act play, either by phone or in person. Travel expenses will be charged for planning sessions that take place in person. There will be additional fees for any planning session beyond the initial five sessions. Payment will be due upon the delivery of a working draft of the script. Rather than pay the commission fee upfront, you may instead elect to pay on a per performance basis. There must be a guarantee of at least twenty-five performances within one year from the date the working draft is delivered. Non-exclusive, perpetual performance rights will not be granted if you elect to pay on a per performance basis. Instead, you will pay a performance royalty of $30 for each performance.
