Hanging on the Backside of a Prayer
By Josh Hornbeck
Hanging onto the backside of a prayer
The bar seems so much further from the ground
To fly I must release my iron grip
Plunging back into unsecured limbo
Long ago I was here before
Insecure and holding fast to my perch
Pushed before I was ready, before trust could hold
I plummeted and fell to the earth
I’m scared of falling again
Climbing high, wasn’t that faith enough?
I can’t see the ground, I can’t see the end
Another fall will leave my paralyzed
But here I sit, the word is given
Fall back on my own or be pushed
I release my hands and breathe a prayer
Tumbling back into soaring flight
