A Midwinter's Night
By Josh Hornbeck
Christmas is supposed to be a time for friends and family, for joy and celebration. It’s a time to reflect on the birth of our savior. But when all you can see around you is greed, gluttony, and cheap sentimentality, how do we keep our hearts from growing cold and hard?
Joseph is a shopkeeper fed up with all of the “Christmas nonsense” he sees about him during the holidays. From the gluttonous Mr. Butterfield to the greedy Mrs. Greeley – and even to the sentimental Miss Sparrow – the people of town continually irritate and aggravate Joseph throughout the Christmas season. But on his way home from the shop one Christmas Eve, Joseph encounters three individuals who will change his live forever.
A play full of tenderness and warmth, A Midwinter’s Night is the story of one man’s resistance to Christmas, and the eventual melting of his heart as he reflects on the true meaning behind the holiday season.
